What Is a Weekly Review System?

A weekly review is a scheduled meeting with yourself — typically 30–60 minutes on Sunday evening — where you step back from daily execution and evaluate the system itself. It is the meta-level that daily protocols cannot address: patterns only visible across 7+ days, strategic drift that daily tracking misses, and priority alignment between what you're doing and where you're going.

David Allen's GTD methodology identified the weekly review as the most critical practice in any personal productivity system. Without it, inboxes overflow, commitments are forgotten, and the system gradually shifts from intentional to reactive. With it, the system self-corrects weekly before small drifts become large derailments.

What a Strong Weekly Review Covers

  • Scorecard review — What did your 6 daily inputs average this week? Which pillars were strong? Which were neglected?
  • Wins review — Read the week's wins log entries. What identity evidence accumulated?
  • Gap analysis — Where did you fall short? What pattern explains it? What adjustment prevents it next week?
  • Next week's A1 priorities — Identify the 3 most important outcomes for next week before the week begins
  • Identity check — Are your identity statements still accurate? Do they need updating as you grow?
