What is Floor Version Rule?

The Floor Version is the irreducible minimum you commit to every single day — the protocol that keeps your streak alive and identity intact even on your worst days. It is designed to take under 30 minutes and require no motivation to start.

QUICK DEFINITION

The Floor Version is the irreducible minimum you commit to every single day — the protocol that keeps your streak alive and identity intact even on your worst days. It is designed to take under 30 minutes and require no motivation to start.

What Is the Floor Version Rule?

The Floor Version Rule states: define, in advance, the minimum version of your daily protocol that still counts as a full day. Not a rest day. Not a fail. A complete execution of your minimum viable system.

Most people fail at consistency not because they lack discipline on hard days, but because they never defined what "enough" looks like when everything goes wrong. Without a floor, the absence of the ceiling (perfect execution) becomes an excuse to do nothing. The Floor Version eliminates that gap.

The Psychology of Minimum Commitments

Research on implementation intentions (Gollwitzer, 1999) shows that pre-deciding what you will do in specific situations dramatically increases follow-through. The Floor Version is a pre-made decision: "When everything falls apart, this is what I still do." This removes the cognitive load of deciding under stress.

The rule also exploits behavioral momentum — starting is almost always harder than continuing. A floor version that takes 2 minutes to begin overcomes the initiation barrier. Once started, most people do more than the minimum. But even if they don't, the minimum was enough.

The AscendOS Floor Version

AscendOS defines the standard Floor Version as five actions that can be completed in under 30 minutes, even on your worst day:

  • 2 minutes of mindset work (one identity statement or 2-minute visualization)
  • 10 minutes of movement (a walk counts — no excuses)
  • One 15-minute focus sprint on your highest-leverage task
  • One income or business action (send a message, follow up, create one thing)
  • 2-minute evening review (three wins, tomorrow's A1 Frog)

This version completes in under 30 minutes. It is not impressive. It is not optimal. It is everything. The No Zero Days rule runs on it.
